Description
Carl Nielsen – Chaconne Op. 32
Chaconne is the shorter of the two. The perpetual nature endemic to the chaconne form suggests a single evolving movement In contrast, Nielsen’s larger variation set, which clearly demarks the beginnings and ends of each of the constituent variation, suggests the work more as a suite.
The Chaconne enjoys popularity up to this day among performers for its originality of texture, harmonics inventiveness and the successful avoidance of the typical piano clichés that seem to curse so many of the works in the last 100 years. This is a concert work and requires mature technique and masterful tonal control.
