The Conservatory Series - VOICE

About the Series

The ten grades of the Conservatory Series parallel the structure of the three professional conservatories offering examinations nationally and internationally.  The Royal Conservatory of Music, Conservatory Canada and the British Columbia Conservatory all administer examinations at different times of the year.  Each publish or have published collections of repertoire for their respected syllabi.

With minimal redundancy of repertoire The Conservatory Series volumes contain predominantly repertoire from these graded syllabi.  Wherever possible the more arcane repertoire has been included.  Some repertoire, until now out of print, has been included, and a small component of repertoire not included in the syllabus is present.  The inclusion of female composers has been a priority in the compiling of this series.

The volumes can be used as the sole publication in the preparation of exam repertoire and are equally valuable as an addendum to the currently published collections thereby more than doubling the number of syllabus selections of any given grade.

Literal English translations are provided for all texts in languages other than English. An appendix of IPA transcriptions has also been include for non-English texts.

Editorial Approach

The editorial approach adopted for The Conservatory Series is consistent with the current practices associated with the URTEXT edition. Facsimiles of the original manuscript, the first edition created under the supervision of the composer and scholarly publication / reproductions have been the source material for most of the music in the collection. No extraneous markings or performance indications have been added to the score. If there is any question as to the authenticity or accurateness of such markings they have been retained in the score but appear in a gray tone. Occasionally performance indications have been added if there are analogous sections of music which contain the markings; if the style suggests that similar music be rendered in a similar way we have added these indications. These markings also appear in a light gray tone.
